Kickboxer Moisés Baute Transferred to Mainland Prison After Alleged Kidnapping and Murder of Alberto González

Kickboxing fighter Moisés Baute (known as El Orejas), one of three accused in the alleged kidnapping and murder of Alberto González, has been transferred from Tenerife II prison to a facility on the mainland for his safety.

Baute had been incarcerated since late July when he reported to a police station along with another detainee while carrying Alberto González’s body in the boot of his car. This transfer follows reports from prison authorities highlighting the challenges of ensuring his safety in Tenerife’s facilities due to inmates holding debts with Baute’s gang.

Currently, the other two accused, Aarón Vargas, president of UD Añaza, and Jonathan Martín, a nightclub bouncer, remain in Tenerife II prison. However, judicial sources quoted by El Día do not rule out making similar decisions regarding their custody in the coming days to mitigate internal risks. This information was reported by the same newspaper.

Background of the Case

The transfer occurs within the context of an ongoing investigation under judicial secrecy into a crime that shocked Tenerife just over a month ago. On July 30, Baute and Martín arrived at the National Police station on Avenida Tres de Mayo (Santa Cruz) in a Toyota with Alberto González’s body in the boot and their friend León severely injured in the back seat. Three days later, Aarón Vargas was arrested.

According to police investigations, González and his companion were victims of a three-day kidnapping, during which they were brutally beaten in various squatted properties in Tenerife. Alberto died from the assaults; León survived with serious injuries.

The three accused are identified as members of the so-called Añaza gang, linked to robberies involving drug traffickers and a history of violent confrontations. Their rivalry with González, who also had a criminal record, dates back to a fight in April during a music festival and escalated with an attack at a nightclub. Since then, there have been threats and reprisals that allegedly led to the crime.

Eviction Business

In addition to his sporting career, Moisés Baute is listed as the owner of “Desokupa Ahora” (Union of Assets of Canary Islands SL), a company dedicated to evicting occupied properties. Jonathan Martín is also reportedly linked to this firm.

The investigating judge has placed all three under provisional custody without bail for charges of homicide or murder, aggravated assault, illegal detention, and crimes against moral integrity. The Homicide Group of the National Police continues the investigation and does not rule out new arrests after uncovering indications that more individuals may have been involved in the kidnapping and murder of Alberto González.
