Tenerife artist Carmen Cólogan will present her work Isla Vertical” in Granadilla de Abona from 6th September until 23rd September. The exhibition, promoted by the Culture Department led by Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto, will be inaugurated on Saturday 6th at El Secadero Cultural Space, starting at 12:00 hours.

Isla Vertical showcases representations of the fauna and flora of Macaronesia, expressed through various characteristic trees from Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores, and Cape Verde.

Artist’s Inspiration

Cólogan notes that “from the pleasurable perspective of imagining the peripheral forests of my island, there lies a deeper imprint: drawing a vertical line in search of light. Be it tree or island, there is always a nostalgic feeling tied to my Gardens of Franchy, where the palmera canariensis reaches for the sky.”

Carmen Cólogan’s Background

Tenerife artist Carmen Cólogan, who holds a degree in Fine Arts from Complutense University of Madrid, began her career with a strong interest in experimentation and research. Her work focuses on the exploration of materials and textures, volume and silence, as well as the dual character that these elements represent.

Her artwork captures an attractive imaginary of juxtaposed objects, drawn from diverse inspirations, which serve as perfect symbols of her painting; a magnificent excuse to continuously paint and explore those initial concerns, which are never abandoned. Colour and light — that unreal light, lacking a defined source, often emanating from her own objects — will remain defining elements of her artistic personality.

Exhibition Details

The inauguration will feature pianist Yasmina Asencio, who will provide music during the event. The exhibition will remain open until 23rd September, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 hours.

Following this, it will be available for viewing at La Tejita Home in El Médano from 24th September until 24th January, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 18:00 hours.
