The Heritage Department of the Insular Council is advancing the restoration works of the emblematic Casa Soler, a building located in the municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna. The project aims to transform the property into a new cultural and museum space, and it has a budget of 1.6 million euros and an execution period of 18 months.

The president of the Council, Rosa Dávila, visited the property to oversee the progress, accompanied by the Insular Director of Historical Heritage, Isabel de Esteban, the mayor of Vilaflor, Agustina Beltrán, and the project leaders, architect Javier Álvarez and restorer Víctor Rodríguez.

A space for culture, employment, and local development

During the visit, Dávila emphasised that this investment will “transform one of the most emblematic buildings in southern Tenerife into a new space dedicated to preserving and disseminating the traditions and rural history of our island.” The insular president added that the intervention not only recovers a historical building but also contributes to local development by combining “heritage conservation with cultural dynamism, job creation, and local development.” Upon completion of the works, the Casa Soler will serve as a museum space.

The insular president also highlighted that this initiative is part of the Council’s commitment to the recovery of Historical Heritage, a strategy that includes projects such as Casa Lola in Guía de Isora, and the Palacio de Carta, among others of both civil and ecclesiastical significance. In this context, the Heritage Department is supported by the largest budget in its history for cultural conservation, amounting to a total of 15 million euros.

A long-awaited project

The mayor of Vilaflor, Agustina Beltrán, expressed her gratitude for the commencement of the works, describing them as “highly anticipated” by the residents of the municipality. For her part, the Insular Director of Heritage, Isabel de Esteban, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works and emphasised the “commitment of the Tenerife Council to fight for all movable and immovable heritage on the island.”

The Casa Soler has its origins in the 16th century, although the current building dates from the 17th century. It represents a prominent example of traditional Canarian architecture and houses elements of significant historical and artistic value. Among them are the hall with a portico and columns, the main stone door, and a wine press alongside several plots at the rear.
