The Ministry of the Interior has identified 105,509 active cases of victims of gender-based violence in the VioGén System, with 54,382 involving minors, according to statistical data from the department headed by Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
Current Statistics of Cases
As of 31 August this year, there are a total of 105,509 active cases of gender-based violence. Of these, 19 are classified as at extreme risk, 1,157 at high risk, 14,818 at medium risk, and 89,515 at low risk.
Victim Demographics
Regarding the ages of the victims in active cases, the Ministry reports that there are 1,384 women under 18; 26,395 aged 18 to 30; 48,982 aged 31 to 45; 26,260 between 46 and 64; and 2,488 aged 65 or over.
Cases Involving Minors
The Interior Ministry also reveals there are 54,382 cases of gender-based violence victims with minors in their care. Of these, a total of 1,413 are at risk of being harmed by the perpetrator of their mother. Currently, there are two such cases classified as at extreme risk, 132 at high risk, and 1,279 at medium risk.
In cases involving minors at risk, “a special combination of indicators is detected, suggesting that the violence exerted by the aggressor towards the victim could extend to other individuals close to them, especially the minors in their care.”
Additionally, the statistics indicate 11,982 cases with minors in care of “particular relevance”, with 18 classified as at extreme risk, 1,072 at high risk, and 10,892 at medium risk. These cases exhibit “a special combination of indicators that significantly increase the likelihood of the aggressor inflicting very severe or lethal violence upon the victim.”

By region, the highest number of active cases of gender-based violence is in Andalucía, with 27,215; followed by the Valencian Community with 17,987; the Community of Madrid with 13,009; the Canary Islands with 6,734; Galicia with 6,231; Murcia with 5,787; Castilla-La Mancha with 5,677; Castilla y León with 5,592; the Balearic Islands with 4,378; Extremadura with 2,964; Aragón with 2,562; Asturias with 2,214; Navarra with 2,080; Cantabria with 1,608; La Rioja with 962; Ceuta with 272; and Melilla with 237.
