Tenerife Fire Consortium to Invest €4.7 Million in New Vehicles
Investment in Fleet Modernisation
The Tenerife Consortium for Fire Prevention and Rescue is set to invest €4.7 million in the purchase of 17 vehicles as part of its fleet upgrade, renewal, and expansion. This initiative aligns with the island government’s strategy for protection and safety, addressing the growing demands of the Consortium across various regions of the island.
First Purchase Already Allocated
Currently, the procurement of the first eight vehicles has been awarded, costing over €1.8 million. Among this batch is a heavy urban pump (BUP), a high-performance vehicle designed for long-duration structural fire interventions, traffic accidents, industrial fires, and rescues.
Specialised Vehicles Included
The package includes two heavy rural pumps (BRP), specialised vehicles for operations in rural and forested areas, capable of accessing challenging terrains, including narrow urban roads or old town centres, among others.
Additional Vehicles in the Pipeline
The list of awarded vehicles also features five command and control units in the form of pick-ups for transport and management roles, as well as a personnel minibus. The Cabildo has also announced plans to release a second package of vehicles for tender this month, with an investment exceeding €2.8 million.
Upcoming Second Purchase
This time, the procurement will consist of two urban pumps. One of these will replace an existing unit, which will then be kept as a reserve, while the other will be allocated to the Provisional Station in Arona. Additionally, the Consortium will acquire three heavy rural pumps.
Special Rescue Units for High-Risk Situations
For locations such as Guía de Isora and Arona, firefighters will tender for two special rescue units (URE), designed for high-risk interventions such as collapses, traffic accidents, or collapsed structures. A water supply urban pump (BUM) will also be part of the Arona station, primarily for extinguishing fires via water supply circuits.
