Lionel Morales Triumphs at World Cup Event in Portugal

Lionel Morales has been crowned this weekend as the winner of the World Cup event held on Saturday in Alhandra, Portugal.

Victory in the PTS2 Category

The Lanzarote paratriathlete triumphed on Portuguese soil in the PTS2 category with a time of 01:12:32, followed by Italian Gianluca Valori in second place (01:16:12), and Namibia’s Jeromius Rooi in third (01:21:31). The African paratriathlete crossed the finish line just seconds ahead of fellow Spaniard Javier Vergara, who finished fourth with a time of 01:21:40.

Exceptional Performance

Lionel Morales achieved the best times in all three segments: the swim (00:13:27), the bike (00:32:04), and the run (00:22:02), only falling behind in the transitions.

Challenging Week

After the event in Portugal, Lionel Morales commented, “It has been a challenging week. I started with vomiting and stomach pain due to gastroenteritis. I struggled quite a bit on the bike as I felt nauseous, but in the end, I managed to secure the victory, gaining a significant lead in the water, which was extremely tough with high winds and strong currents. I was able to create and maintain that lead throughout the rest of the race until I crossed the finish line first,” concluded a proud Lionel Morales.

Upcoming Events

The next and final round of the World Cup will take place in Alanya, Turkey, on the weekend of 25th October. Prior to that, the Lanzarote paratriathlete will head to Águilas, Murcia, to compete in another event in the Spanish championship.
