PP Condemns Loss of €10,000 in Funding

The PP in the Tuineje council has issued a statement indicating that “the Tuineje Town Council, governed by Coalición Canaria (CC) and the Socialist Party (PSOE), is facing a new episode of mismanagement by losing a public grant of €10,000 awarded by the Fuerteventura Tourism Board for the promotion of the 14th edition of the Fuerteventura International Clowns Festival TRAN TRAN.”

“After reviewing the submitted documentation, the Board has declared this financial aid for the 2024 fiscal year unjustified due to non-compliance with the General Grants Law and the provisions outlined in the agreement signed between both administrations. As a consequence, the process to reclaim the full amount of the funds has commenced, granting the Town Council a period of ten working days to submit appeals.”

Esther Hernández, spokesperson for the PP in the council, expressed regret over the new political term starting just as the last ended: with funding losses due to errors in the Town Council’s management. She stated, “It is concerning that Tuineje continues to lose opportunities due to a lack of planning and organisation in managing public resources.”

Popular councillor Nélida Padilla emphasised, “The government’s improvisation and negligence are adversely affecting our municipality. It is not just funding that is lost; there are also missed opportunities for development and progress that could benefit all residents.”

They noted that “this latest setback adds to other recent cases that highlight the need for better economic and administrative management within the council, where a lack of planning and transparency is impacting key cultural, social, and tourism initiatives for Tuineje.”

The PP also expressed concern regarding the “anxiety among residents, as of September 9, there has been no official information about this year’s TRAN TRAN Festival, despite its significance for the municipality and island tourism.”
