The automotive brand, Cupra, has chosen the sacred mountain of Tindaya to name its new model. This vehicle was unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2025 event in Munich, placing the municipality of La Oliva on the international stage. It highlights the uniqueness of its landscape, a truly natural environment. La Oliva becomes an international focal point following the launch of Cupra’s new model: ‘Tindaya’

This initiative aims to transcend the image of the island being exclusively associated with ‘sun and beach’ tourism. The goal is to promote other locations in Fuerteventura, particularly the sacred mountain of Tindaya in La Oliva. This idea aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Tourism and Environment Department, led by David Fajardo, since the beginning of the current legislative term.

Encouraging Sustainable Tourism

In this vein, the aim is to enhance a form of tourism that is conscious of the environment and appreciates aspects of the municipality beyond the coastline. Sporting activities are available year-round, along with the rich traditions and customs of the island’s inhabitants. Recent developments include the opening of the Castillo del Tostón and the Aljibe del Veneno and Redonda. Moreover, natural sites like the mountain of Tindaya underscore a new paradigm that enhances Fuerteventura’s image as a multifaceted tourist destination.

Remarks from Local Officials

Isaí Blanco, the mayor of La Oliva, emphasised the significance of the presentation at the IAA Mobility 2025. “This is a unique opportunity to showcase our municipality. We take great pride in the new Cupra carrying the name of the most special mountain in our area, Tindaya. This reinforces what the automotive brand has rightly acknowledged: Fuerteventura is much more than just ‘sun and beach’. This is a perspective we have been working on since the beginning of the term and will continue to pursue.”

He continued, “Our objective is to highlight the various qualities of La Oliva, including sports, tourist points of interest, and, naturally, our landscapes that extend beyond our famous beaches.”

David Fajardo, the councillor for Tourism and Environment, added, “The new Cupra ‘Tindaya’ provides La Oliva with an unparalleled international profile. The brand promotes the sacred mountain, showcasing the authenticity of this natural enclave. Together with the synergy of Tourism and Environment, we aim to enhance the municipality. It’s not just about our kilometres of golden sandy beaches, but also the many other qualities of La Oliva: sports, the island’s traditions, and, of course, our nature and care for our surroundings.”

Cupra places La Oliva at the centre of the conversation, with Tindaya and its sacred mountain viewed from an international perspective, all with this new model of car.
