San Bartolomé Council Reinforces Commitment to Gender Violence Prevention and Support Services

The Mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, and the Councillor for Equality, Mónica de León, held a coordination meeting on Monday with the insular director of the State in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera Espinosa, and the head of the Gender Violence Unit, Olga María Betancor Tabares. The purpose of the meeting was to address the current situation regarding gender issues and to coordinate efforts for prevention and action from the municipal level. Representatives from the Local Police and the Civil Guard also participated in the meeting.

Mayor Isidro Pérez asserted, “From this Council, we reaffirm our firm and unwavering commitment against gender violence. Our governing team is committed to the proper implementation of measures and collaborative work with the Security Forces and Corps, as well as the Insular Directorate, to protect women and advance towards a society free of male violence.”

The meeting was part of the Police Coordination Table on gender violence, which also included representatives from the Local Police of San Bartolomé and the Civil Guard. The focus was on analysing recorded cases in the municipality and monitoring and updating the VioGén protocol, a fundamental tool for ensuring victim protection.

During the meeting, the importance of rigorous and up-to-date application of protocols was emphasised, as well as the need for close cooperation between public administrations and security bodies to provide a comprehensive and effective response to gender violence.

Councillor Mónica de León highlighted that, in addition to this coordinated work, “the San Bartolomé Council offers a comprehensive service available to all women in the municipality, providing support in the areas of employment, social issues, and psychological assistance, with the aim of fostering their autonomy and well-being.”

Through such meetings, the San Bartolomé Council reaffirms its commitment to equality, security, and the protection of women’s rights, advancing institutional coordination and continually improving protection and support resources.
