Fire Breaks Out on Ship Aground in Órzola
A ship that ran aground in Órzola on Wednesday has caught fire following the evacuation of its five crew members, who are from Morocco. According to information provided by the Lanzarote Cabildo’s Security and Emergency Consortium and Emergencias Canarias (EMERLAN), it is believed to be a stolen vessel that departed four days ago from the African country.
The rescue operation is still ongoing as the area is difficult to access. Additionally, there have been sightings of oil spills, prompting the activation of a marine pollution response plan through the emergency number 112.
The fishing vessel that arrived at Charco de La Condesa in Órzola has necessitated the involvement of nearly all security and emergency services on the island. They have been deployed to the northern region via land, sea, and air, and the source of the fire within the ship remains unknown.
