PSOE Denounces Cabildo President’s Misleading Claims

PSOE Accuses Cabildo President of Deceiving Citizens Over Economic Plan Approval

The PSOE of Lanzarote has condemned the attempts by Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort to “deceive the public” by presenting the approval of the Economic Financial Plan by the Government of the Canary Islands as an achievement.

Criticism from the PSOE

According to the General Secretary of the PSOE and Member of Congress, María Dolores Corujo, “The economic plan is not a badge of honour; it is a sanction. It is the direct consequence of the financial disaster that Oswaldo Betancort has brought upon the Cabildo. To now attempt to present this sanction as a demonstration of good management is simply a crude attempt to manipulate the public.”

Corujo highlighted that the Economic Financial Plan is a legal obligation imposed due to the breach of fiscal regulations, not a voluntary decision or a sign of responsibility, as the Cabildo President has sought to imply.

Public Awareness

“The citizens of Lanzarote are fully aware of what is happening. This plan is not an acknowledgment; it is a warning. The serious issue is that instead of facing reality, Oswaldo Betancort attempts to sell it as an institutional success. This is intolerable,” she added.

PSOE members caution that this adjustment plan does not resolve the underlying problem; instead, it is a direct consequence of wasteful policies and budgetary mismanagement.

Demands for Honesty

The PSOE concludes by demanding that the island president stop lying and recognise the seriousness of the situation. “One cannot play with the collective intelligence of this island. Lanzarote is undergoing a financial crisis caused by poor management, and the least one can expect from a president is to tell the truth and take responsibility. To attempt to don a medal for creating this chaos is simply a disgrace.”
