Insular President Rosa Dávila Emphasises That “No Other Administration Invests as Much as We Do in Language Immersion Scholarships Across Spain”
The Government Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife approved today (Wednesday) the contracting file for the management of services related toLanguage Immersion Scholarships, with a budget of €3.8 million. This will enable 340 students from the island to study abroad during the academic years 2026/2027/2028.
Cabildo President Rosa Dávila highlighted that “no other administration invests as much as we do in language immersion scholarships across Spain. We are a national reference in promotinginternational training for our youth.” She also stressed that these grants represent a direct investment in the future of young people from Tenerife, as they not only enhance their language skills but also prepare them to thrive in an increasingly globalised environment.
“Thanks to this unprecedented public funding, we ensure that talented and hardworking students can access international experiences that would otherwise be out of reach, removing economic barriers and promoting equality of opportunity,” Dávila remarked.
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Education, Efraín Medina, noted that the island’s scholarship plan is not limited to these aids but encompasses a wide range of programmes, including early childhood education, vocational training, and university studies, with particular attention to families facing the greatest challenges in balancing work and education.
TheLanguage Immersion Programme is aimed at students in Year 10 and Year 11 of secondary school, offering three types of international stays (annual, termly, and Dual Baccalaureate) in countries renowned for language education such as the United States, Canada, Ireland, and France. The scholarships for the International Dual Baccalaureate, targeted at Year 12 and Year 13 students, allow for the attainment of dual qualifications (Spanish and either American or Canadian high school diplomas) over two academic years.
The minimum scholarship amount per student is €8,500, with the maximum reaching €17,500. The application process will remain open until 13 October. In total, the insular Corporation allocated €14 million in the 2024/2025 academic year for educational programmes for children and young people on the island.
