Approval of Funding for Language Immersion Scholarships in Tenerife
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) – The Cabildo de Tenerife’s Governing Council approved a contract proposal on Wednesday, amounting to €3.8 million, for managing services related to Language Immersion Scholarships. This programme will enable 340 schoolchildren from the island to study abroad between 2026 and 2028.
The Cabildo President, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that no other local administration “invests as much” as the Cabildo on language immersion scholarships across Spain.
“We are a national leader in our commitment to the international education of our youth,” she stated.
Furthermore, Dávila emphasised that these grants represent a direct investment in the future of young people in Tenerife, as they “not only help improve their language skills but also prepare them to thrive in an increasingly globalised environment.”
“Thanks to this unprecedented public funding, talented and hard-working students can access international experiences that would otherwise be beyond their reach, removing financial barriers and promoting equal opportunities,” Dávila remarked.
The Education Councillor, Efraín Medina, added that the island’s scholarship plan extends beyond these grants, encompassing a wide range of programmes from early childhood education to vocational and university training, with particular focus on families facing greater challenges in balancing work and education.
Programme Details
The Language Immersion Programme is aimed at students in Years 10 and 11 (3rd and 4th of ESO) and includes three types of international stays (annual and quarterly) in key countries for language education, such as the United States, Canada, Ireland, and France.
Similarly, scholarships are available for the International Dual Baccalaureate, targeted at Year 12 and 13 students, allowing them to obtain dual qualifications (Spanish and either American or Canadian Baccalaureate) over two academic years.
The minimum grant amount per student is €8,500, rising to a maximum of €17,500, and applications will be open until 13 October.
In total, the island corporation allocated €14 million for the 2024/2025 academic year to educational programmes for children and young people on the island.
