Creation of Commander Position for Puerto del Rosario Police

The Ministry of the Interior announces the establishment of a Commander position for the Puerto del Rosario company

The island of Fuerteventura, specifically the Puerto del Rosario company, will now have a Commander position, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior. Previously, the highest rank in Fuerteventura was that of Captain in the local police force, which will now report to the Command.

This step is crucial in establishing a new safety paradigm for the island, a move requested by all administrations and political parties. There was a call for changes in the command structure of the police force, as it is one of the most prevalent bodies in Fuerteventura. This reform is particularly important in La Oliva, Pájara, Tuineje, Antigua, and Betancuria, where the National Police do not have jurisdiction.

In addition, sources consulted by this newspaper report that a broadening of the staff catalogue in Fuerteventura will soon occur, with an average of 15 positions being added across various locations, including Corralejo, Gran Tarajal, Morro Jable, and Puerto del Rosario.

USECIC Unit

Furthermore, the same sources indicate that a USECIC unit will be established in Fuerteventura, comprising 30 personnel, who will operate from the Majorera base throughout the province.

The USECIC (Citizen Security Unit of the Command) is a permanent operational unit of the Guardia Civil, designed to bolster public security in high-risk situations or where specialised assistance is required.

It acts as a rapid intervention force, providing support to other units in operations, crowd control, and responding to threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.
