Lanzarote Cabildo Approves New € Support for Social Projects to Assist Vulnerable Groups

The new call for applications will support projects focused on childhood, equality, addiction, disability, social inclusion, and immigration, among other priority areas

The Plenary of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved on Thursday, definitively and unanimously, the regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies aimed at non-profit entities that develop social intervention projects in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

These grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and are intended to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable groups in society through programmes related to childhood and families, equality and diversity, the fight against addiction, support for disability and dependency, social inclusion, and immigration, among other fields of action.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that “with the approval of these bases, we are moving decisively forward in our commitment to social welfare and inclusion. Lanzarote and La Graciosa have a valuable associative fabric that deserves the support of the island’s institution to continue developing projects that enhance people’s lives and ensure a fairer and more cohesive society.”

Meanwhile, the councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, highlighted that “after ten years without regulatory bases, we have designed comprehensive, flexible, and transparent bases, which will address a diverse range of projects, particularly with a holistic approach. This is about providing tools to social entities so they can respond to the genuine needs of the population, especially in sensitive areas like childhood, disability, unwanted loneliness, and support for migrants.”

Requirements and Procedure

These regulatory bases form part of a roadmap established by the current government group at the beginning of their term, with the aim of organising and regulating these subsidies to social entities, similar to what was done with the social concert.

“The intention of this Cabildo,” adds councillor Marci Acuña, “is to propose several calls for applications throughout the year, depending on the budgetary capacity of the Corporation, which will undoubtedly improve the capabilities of the entities.”

As for the requirements, applicant entities must be legally established, non-profit, have a permanent headquarters or branch in Lanzarote or La Graciosa, and effectively engage in social activities. Applications must be submitted exclusively via the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, within 20 working days from the announcement’s publication in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas.

The awarding process will be based on a scoring system of up to 100 points, which will assess the track record and management capacity of the entities, the quality and innovation of the submitted projects, methodology and evaluation indicators, gender perspective, accessibility and inclusion, as well as budget coherence. Only proposals achieving over 50 points will be eligible for funding. The maximum amount of assistance may reach up to 100% of the eligible project’s cost.
