Gran Canaria to Host One of Spain’s Largest Energy Communities
5 Megawatt Photovoltaic Installation Planned
The project will be executed on the roofs of over 25 buildings, featuring a 5 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic energy installation. El Goro, located on Gran Canaria, is set to be home to what is being described as the largest energy community in the Canary Islands and one of the largest in Spain. In addition to the photovoltaic setup, there will be an energy storage installation.
Investment and Financing
According to a statement from the contractor IASOL, a leading company in photovoltaic installations, in collaboration with the Orbe Group, the energy community will be funded by member companies that will benefit from the energy produced, as well as through the European Next Generation funding.
A Model of Collaboration and Sustainability
The project is being positioned as a “pioneering model” of collaboration and corporate sustainability. Sources consulted by IASOL estimate that the construction works will “generate employment for over 50 workers in the Canary Islands, thus boosting the local economy,” emphasises the note.
About IASOL
Founded in 2005, IASOL opened its delegation in the Canary Islands in 2021 and has since established a strong presence with over 15 MWp installed across various projects. Notably, it has developed a 7 MWp solar park in Fuerteventura through a complete EPC approach, managing everything from development to legalisation and connection, in addition to projects for large companies and self-consumption installations of 1 MWp.
