Fire in Arico Controlled, Says Tenerife Cabildo
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11 September. (EUROPA PRESS) – The Cabildo of Tenerife has announced that the fire which broke out on Wednesday night at the Arico Environmental Complex is under control. The incident occurred specifically in an area designated for the storage of composted materials and packaged cardboard and plastic.
In a statement issued by the insular corporation, the Minister for Natural Environment, Blanca Pérez, noted that the perimeter has been secured and that the fire has not spread to the rest of the facilities. This follows extensive work conducted throughout the night by the Consortium of Firefighters.
“The materials that have burned are primarily stacks of pre-sorted cardboard and plastic, with some cans also involved. We continue to work on the situation and anticipate that our efforts will be ongoing throughout the day, as some of the material is being allowed to burn due to its highly compressed nature, making it akin to a torch,” she explained.
The emergency intervention involved firefighters from the Consortium, deploying a total of six Heavy Urban Pumping Appliances (BUP), five Urban Water Tenders (BUN), as well as a command and control unit, a personnel and loading unit, and a self-storage unit.
Additionally, volunteer firefighters from Granadilla, Güímar, Guía de Isora, and Adeje were present on-site, together with forest brigades, members of the Civil Guard, local police, Civil Protection, a preventative resource from the SUC, and the CECOPIN.
Firefighting efforts will continue throughout the day to ensure full extinguishment of the fire, the cause of which remains unknown.
