La Palma Airport Sees Slight Increase in Passenger Numbers

The La Palma Airport recorded a total of 138,846 passengers in August, reflecting a 0.5% increase compared to the same month last year, according to Aena. The Mazo facility experienced the smallest rise, while El Hierro was the only airport to see a decrease in traveller numbers last month.

Overall Canary Islands Airport Traffic

Throughout August, the airports in the Canary Islands accounted for 4,730,200 passengers, marking a 5.2% increase compared to the same month in 2024. Of this total, 4,703,664 were commercial flight passengers. Among these, 2,186,713 travelled on domestic flights, a rise of 6.1% from August last year, while 2,516,951 were on international flights, which is an increase of 4.6% compared to the same month in 2024.

Furthermore, there were 40,714 aircraft movements, an increase of 2.8%, and a total of 2,618 tonnes of cargo were transported, which is 3.7% more than in August of last year.

Passenger Traffic by Airport

Gran Canaria Airport registered the highest number of passengers at 1,294,008, representing a 6.2% increase compared to August 2024. It was followed by Tenerife South Airport with 1,110,732 passengers and a 1.1% increase; César Manrique-Lanzarote with 825,901 passengers (+3.6%); Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna with 683,589 (+9.7%); Fuerteventura with 628,755 (+10%); El Hierro with 34,086 (-4.1%); and La Gomera with 14,283 passengers (+9.2%).

Annual Accumulation from January to August

So far this year, Canarian airports have registered 36,401,682 travellers, a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of the 36,185,568 commercial passengers, 14,993,983 flew on domestic flights, up by 5.3%, while 21,191,585 used international flights, which is a 5% increase when compared to the same period in 2024.

From January to August 2025, there were 321,755 aircraft movements, a 4.7% increase over the previous year, and 21,283 tonnes of cargo transported, which is a decrease of 1.8% from 2024.
