Lanzarote’s Safety Consortium Provides Communication Equipment for Romería de Los Dolores Event

The operation plan involves the presence of local police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, firefighters, Canary Islands police, volunteers, and medical personnel.

Communication Equipment for Enhanced Safety

This Friday, the Lanzarote Consortium for Security and Emergencies delivered TETRA communication equipment to the seven municipalities on the island. This essential technology aims to ensure effective coordination among various security forces during the Romería de Los Dolores, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday 13th September, in Mancha Blanca.

The handover occurred at the Advanced Command Post in Mancha Blanca and involved key figures such as the Vice-President of the Cabildo, María Jesús Tovar; the President of the Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio; the Deputy Minister for Emergencies and Water, Marcos Lorenzo; and municipal representatives from all seven councils.

Community Safety and Participation

Oswaldo Betancort, the President of the Cabildo, expressed gratitude towards the volunteers and emergency services personnel. “Thousands of pilgrims will set off from various points across the island towards Dolores. It is crucial that they adhere to the established paths and start their journey with ample time,” he emphasised, also reminding everyone of the importance of suitable attire for the pilgrimage.

Francisco J. Aparicio underscored that the provision of these communication devices “is a fundamental step in improving coordination among security forces, Civil Protection, health services, and volunteers during an event of this magnitude.” He further stated that “the entire operation is ready and strengthened to ensure that both residents and visitors can enjoy the pilgrimage with maximum safety.”

Public Cooperation Encouraged

The operations plan ensures that local police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, firefighters, Canary Islands police, volunteers, and medical personnel will be connected through the TETRA network, providing rapid and secure communication in the event of any incidents.

The Consortium calls on citizens to cooperate by respecting the instructions of the security forces and to enjoy the Romería responsibly and safely.
