Incident in Puerto del Carmen: Dangerous Pergola Secured

A significant scare occurred on Thursday morning in Puerto del Carmen, although there were no serious personal or material consequences. At 10:40 on 11 September, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes 1-1-2) activated an alert following the collapse of a pergola at a property on Los Volcanes Street, within the tourist area of Tías.

The alert was communicated to the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Service, which dispatched personnel from the South Park, specifically the Bravo 2 team. Upon arrival, they confirmed that the structure, a pergola situated outside the property, had been lifted by strong gusts of wind recorded in the area that morning.

The primary risk identified was that the pergola, displaced from its original position, remained unstable and at risk of collapsing. To prevent potential damage to people, vehicles, or nearby infrastructure, the firefighters proceeded to secure the area and ultimately placed the pergola on the ground in a safe location.
