Cabildo of Lanzarote Implements Minimum Transport Services Amidst Planned Strike

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in response to the notice of a planned strike submitted by the Federation of Services to Citizens of CCOO Canarias, which affects the regular intercity public transport service in the province, has issued a Resolution establishing essential minimum services to ensure mobility on 15th and 16th September.

Minimum Services Established

The institution, through its Transport and Mobility Area, has set the minimum services at 70% of the total scheduled trips “to regulate the strike situation affecting the workers of Arrecife Bus SL. The strike will take place on 15th and 16th September 2025 and will continue thereafter with intermittent stoppages during the hours of 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00 until the conflict is resolved, affecting staff of the aforementioned company,” the Resolution states.

It is considered that “the establishment of minimum services at the stated percentage respects the adequate constitutional balance between conflicting rights.”

Essential Services and Prioritisation

During the strike, essential services will remain operational, including priority routes connecting key locations on the island such as hospitals, transport stations, and educational centres. The frequency will also be adapted during peak demand hours, ensuring service availability during critical times; with particular attention to vulnerable groups, such as individuals with reduced mobility, who will be able to access transportation safely.

The aim of the proposal put forward by the island institution is to minimise the impact on citizens, especially those who rely on public transport for essential activities.

Collaboration and Public Appeal

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is working closely with the transport company to ensure compliance with the minimum services. Furthermore, it appeals for understanding and patience from the public regarding any potential inconveniences caused by the strike.
