Tenerife remains vibrant with activities over the weekends as both public and private sectors support leisure activities on the island. From film and music events to religious activities, there are various options for an exciting weekend. If you were considering staying at home, it’s time to check your wardrobe and get ready because you won’t want to miss out on these events.

Film

TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is featuring Black Dog by Guah Hu this weekend at 19:00. This award-winning film from the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section, as well as the Best Direction and Best Cinematography awards at SEMINCI, follows a solitary man who, after being released from prison, finds an unexpected companion in a stray dog. What begins as a forced association evolves into a transformative bond, exploring themes of redemption, hope, and affection. This poignant tale of two marginalised souls finding companionship in adversity is set against the stunning landscapes of the Gobi Desert, featuring performances by Eddie Peng, Tong Liya, and Jia Zhangke. The film will be screened in its original Chinese with Spanish subtitles.

Religion

La Laguna is celebrating the main event of the Christ Festival this Sunday. At 10:00, there will be a civic-military procession with the Royal Banner from the town hall to the Santa Iglesia Cathedral, attended by top civil, military, and consular authorities. At 10:45, a welcome ceremony for the royal representative will take place in the Cathedral square, followed by a Eucharist and procession of the Blessed Christ of La Laguna to its Royal Sanctuary.

Opera

The Auditorio de Tenerife will host Ópera en minúscula this Saturday, September 13, a smaller-scale chamber opera series running throughout September in various locations across the island. This Saturday’s performance features Domitila by João Guilherme Ripper at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna. Tickets can be purchased here.

Festivities

This weekend continues the celebrations for the Adeje Lustral Festivities in honour of Our Lady of the Incarnation. On Saturday, there will be a family gathering at the Milagrosa Parish from 10:00 to 13:00, followed by a Eucharist on Sunday at 18:00, with the procession of the virgin to the Resurrection Parish of Our Lord in Armeñime. Upon arrival, there will be an institutional welcome and a celebration of the Word. The orchestra Quimbao La Nuit will also perform in the Plaza de Armeñime.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Guía de Isora will also celebrate some events for its Lustral Festivities this weekend. On Saturday, the IV Memorial Manuel Álvarez Vargas will take place at 17:30, followed by a Eucharist at 18:00. Later that evening, at 21:00, there will be a Young Night featuring dance and urban music. On Sunday, the Automodelling Trophy will commence at 09:00, alongside the XLII Arts and Crafts Fair starting at the same time, and a chess tournament.

The Eucharist will begin at 11:30, and in the afternoon at 18:00, there will be a festival for the elderly.

Sports

This weekend’s sports events will take place at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium with the first match of the season. The match featuring Costa Adeje Tenerife and RCD Espanyol is set for Saturday at 16:00.
