Lanzarote’s Emergency Consortium Enhances Coordination for Romería de Los Dolores with New Communication Equipment

The Lanzarote Consortium for Security and Emergencies delivered communication equipment to the seven municipalities of the island on Friday. The meeting took place at the Advanced Command Post located in Mancha Blanca, attended by María Jesús Tovar, the Vice-President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Francisco J. Aparicio, the President of the Consortium, Marcos Lorenzo, the Deputy Councillor for Emergencies and Water, and representatives from the seven municipalities.

Enhancing Coordination for the Event

According to a press release from the Cabildo, this initiative reinforces the coordination and response mechanisms among various institutions, ensuring an effective deployment for the upcoming Romería de Los Dolores, which will be held this Saturday, 13th September, in Mancha Blanca.

Oswaldo Betancort, the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers and emergency services “who will ensure safety throughout the weekend.” He added, “Thousands of pilgrims will set off from all over the island to celebrate Dolores, so it is vital to respect the designated paths and to leave with ample time.” Betancort emphasised that when attending Mancha Blanca, “appropriate dress is essential.”

Key Steps in Emergency Coordination

Francisco J. Aparicio, the President of the Consortium for Security and Emergencies of Lanzarote, explained that the delivery of this equipment is “a crucial step in improving coordination among security forces, civil protection, health services, and volunteer personnel participating in an event as significant as the Romería de Los Dolores.”

Aparicio highlighted that “the entire deployment is prepared and reinforced, allowing both locals and visitors to enjoy the pilgrimage with maximum safety.” He also stressed the importance of collaboration among the Cabildo, municipal authorities, security forces, volunteer groups, and health entities to ensure the success of this important event for the island.

Operational Preparedness

The operational plan includes the presence of local police, the Guardia Civil, civil protection, firefighters, the Canarian police, volunteers, and health personnel, all of whom will be connected at all times via the tetra network. This will enable swift and secure communication in case of any incidents.

The Consortium for Security and Emergencies calls on the public to cooperate by adhering to the guidance from security personnel and to enjoy the Romería de Los Dolores safely.
