The paratriathlete, representing the Canary Islands under the name of CD Natación Nadamas Las Marinas, secured victory in Murcia in the PTS2 category with a time of 01:13:03. He was followed by Balearic athlete Javier Vergara Rubio (01:21:59), who finished fourth last week in the World Championship event held in Portugal. Oskar Garro Antxia from the Basque Country came in third with a time of 01:34:12.

According to a press release from Lionel Morales’s team, he achieved the best times in all three sections of the event: in the water (00:12:21), on the bike (00:31:11), and in the run (00:22:41), although he lagged slightly in the first transition.

After the event in Águilas, Morales stated, “This new title of champion of Spain in Águilas 2025 holds a very special meaning for me and my family. On another 13th of September, eleven years ago in 2014, I was in hospital in a coma due to heatstroke right here in Águilas. Eight days in a coma and nearly a month in hospital. And look at everything that has happened since and all I have achieved over the years without giving up.” The Lanzarote paratriathlete concluded, filled with pride and joy, as he looks forward to the final World Championship event in Alanya, Turkey, from Lanzarote.
