Lionel Morales has declared himself the Spanish Champion at the Spanish Paratriathlon Championships held this weekend in Águilas, Murcia.
Victory in the PTS2 Category
The paratriathlete from Lanzarote, representing the Canary Islands under the name CD Natación Nadamas Las Marinas, emerged victorious in the Murcian competition in the PTS2 category with a time of 01:13:03. He was followed in second place by Balearic athlete Javier Vergara Rubio (01:21:59), who finished fourth the previous week at the Portugal World Championship event. Oskar Garro Antxia from the Basque Country claimed third place with a time of 01:34:12.
Outstanding Performance Across the Distances
Lionel Morales recorded the best times in all three segments of the Murcian event: in the swimming portion (00:12:21), cycling (00:31:11), and running (00:22:41), although he trailed slightly in the first transition time.
A Special Meaning
After the event in Águilas, Lionel Morales shared, “This new title of Spanish champion in Águilas 2025 holds a very special meaning for me and my loved ones. On another 13th of September, eleven years ago in 2014, I was in hospital in a coma due to a heat stroke right here in Águilas. I spent eight days in a coma and nearly a month in hospital. Look at all the time that has passed and everything I’ve managed to achieve over the years without giving up.” The paratriathlete from Lanzarote concluded, filled with pride and joy, as he now sets his sights on the final event of the World Championships in Alanya, Turkey.
