Lionel Morales Crowned Spanish Champion in Paratriathlon

Lionel Morales has been crowned this weekend as the Champion of Spain at the Spanish Paratriathlon Championship held in Águilas, Murcia.

The Lanzarote paratriathlete, representing the Canary Islands under the name of CD Natación Nadamas Las Marinas, triumphed in Murcia in the PTS2 category with a time of 01:13:03. He was followed in second place by Balearic athlete Javier Vergara Rubio (01:21:59), a team mate who finished fourth last week at the World Championship event in Portugal. The third place was claimed by Basque competitor Oskar Garro Antxia (01:34:12).

Lionel Morales achieved the best times across all three segments of the event in Murcia: in the swim (00:12:21), on the bike (00:31:11), and during the run (00:22:41), although he finished behind in the first transition.

A Personal Milestone

After the race in Águilas, Morales shared his thoughts: “This new title of Champion of Spain in Águilas 2025 holds a very special meaning for me and my family because, on another 13th of September, just like today eleven years ago, I was in hospital in a coma from heatstroke right here in Águilas.” He added, “I was in a coma for eight days and spent nearly a month in the hospital. Look at all the time that has passed and everything I have managed to achieve over the years by not giving up.” Morales concluded, filled with pride and joy, that he is enjoying a spectacular end to the season and is already focusing on the final World Championship event in Alanya, Turkey, from Lanzarote.
