Temperatures Could Reach 36 Degrees in Gran Canaria’s Peaks Next Tuesday

This Sunday, the heat remains in the Canary Islands, with maximum temperatures of 34 degrees expected.

Weather Warnings for Strong Winds and Coastal Phenomena

Strong gusts of wind, adverse coastal phenomena, and intense heat are anticipated in the Canary Islands as the week begins. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has already issued several warnings, currently at yellow level. These include:

Wind Warnings

Starting from 18:00 on Sunday, a yellow warning will be in effect for the western islands due to east component wind gusts that could reach 70 kilometres per hour.

This primarily affects the area of El Paso on La Palma, the higher altitudes and the southeast and southwest slopes of La Gomera and El Hierro, as well as the southeast of Tenerife.

The warning is expected to remain active until 08:00 on Tuesday morning.

Coastal Phenomena

A yellow warning for adverse coastal phenomena will also be in effect from 18:00 on Sunday.

The strong northeast winds, blowing at force 7 (between 50 and 61 kilometres per hour), will generate significant wave activity in the southeast and west of Gran Canaria, the Anaga-Agaete channel, the southeast of Tenerife, the northwest of La Gomera, the north of El Hierro, and the southern tip of La Palma.

Currently, Aemet has maintained the warning until 03:00 on Monday.

High Temperatures

Aemet has activated a yellow warning for Monday due to expected temperatures of up to 34 degrees in the peaks of Gran Canaria, as well as the east, south, and west regions of the island.

The heat will primarily affect the Tejeda basin and the south and west-facing midlands and is expected to intensify on Tuesday, potentially reaching 36 degrees.

The warning will extend on Tuesday to the northern midlands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, the peaks and west of La Palma, as well as La Gomera and El Hierro, where 34 degrees are also anticipated.
