Meetings continue with the residents of the Old Town of Corralejo to advance the Support Programme for Rehabilitation Actions at the Neighbourhood level in this area of the northern locality. The La Oliva Town Council, together with the Insular Council of Fuerteventura, explains the process under which the ERRP will be developed, enabling a fresh and renewed image for the centre of Corralejo. In this context, the subsidisable actions will apply to 99 participating homes. These include improvements or rehabilitation of buildings predominantly used for residential purposes, aiming at a 60% reduction in the consumption of non-renewable energies, along with urbanisation, re-urbanisation, or enhancements to the physical environment outlined in the programme. The total budget allocated for these actions exceeds €2.5 million, funded by the State, the La Oliva Town Council, and the Insular Council, with no cost to the property owners.

Significance of the Project

The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, emphasises the importance of this initiative for Corralejo: “This programme will benefit not only all participating residents who will see improvements in the façades of their homes but also the overall appearance of the Old Town. This action not only enhances the conditions of existing housing but also complements previous local government initiatives that provided land for the creation of new homes, allowing local residents to establish a proper living environment.”

Commitment to Quality of Life

Additionally, the President of the Insular Council of Fuerteventura, Lola García, highlights the significance of projects aimed at improving people’s quality of life, particularly through housing rehabilitation, which is essential in a limited territory like Fuerteventura. She also noted that “the Council will continue to work to extend this coordination to the other municipalities.”

A Collaborative Effort

Juan José Rodríguez, Councillor for Finance and Revenue, explains: “Through the European Funds Office, we have launched a project that will enhance Corralejo’s image. This budget would be unattainable without the work we are doing in this department to secure various funds for the benefit of our residents.” Lastly, Deputy Mayor Julio Santana states: “The ERRP will revitalise the appearance of the Old Town area of Corralejo and benefit all participants in the programme, representing a significant advance in improving existing housing quality.”

Further Information

For more information about the programme, participating residents can visit the Town Hall in Corralejo on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:00 to 14:00.

Housing rehabilitation in the Old Town of Corralejo is funded through the Support Programmes for Residential Rehabilitation and Social Housing within the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU – in the autonomous community of the Canary Islands.
