169 Civil Guard Officers Deployed to the Canary Islands

Deployment Details

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced today from the Government Subdelegation in Tenerife the incorporation of 169 Civil Guard officers to the Archipelago starting this summer. He further revealed that the number of personnel stationed in the islands will continue to increase.

Specifically, the largest number of agents will be deployed to Tenerife and Fuerteventura, with 66 and 30 officers, respectively. Gran Canaria follows with 27, Lanzarote with 20, La Palma with 13, La Gomera with 10, and El Hierro with three.

Government Commitment

The minister welcomed the news, stating, “This is a commitment from the Government of Spain and the Ministry of the Interior to our Archipelago. It is excellent news, as it was also a demand from local authorities, such as the councils and municipalities, and therefore, we are responding to a need in the Canary Islands.”

Torres emphasised that these officers, who have been in the Canary Islands since July for their practical training, address a requirement voiced by the local administrations. He reiterated that the number of personnel will continue to be increased.

Recent Reinforcements

Recent enhancements have included the addition of a lieutenant colonel for the Canary Islands Zone, a commander for the Vecindario Company, and a sergeant for the CCRV (security camera system) in the Canary Islands.
