Alert Declared Across Multiple Islands

The General Directorate of Emergencies in the Canary Islands has issued a warning regarding the risk of wildfires on the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria. In Gran Canaria, this applies to areas above 400 metres in altitude.

This decision is based on the available information and takes into account an ongoing heatwave, with maximum temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, potentially reaching as high as 36 degrees. A temperature inversion is also notable below 400 metres, with relative humidity levels ranging from 20% to 40% starting at around 500 to 600 metres, alongside dust clouds.

Wind and Weather Conditions

The alert also mentions the presence of easterly and southeasterly winds across mid-altitude areas, higher grounds, and summits, which are expected to be moderate to light from Thursday onwards.

Additionally, the regional government has declared a pre-alert status due to winds, dust clouds, coastal phenomena, and rising maximum temperatures.
