The Cabildo Launches the Third Edition of the Nursery Voucher to Alleviate Family Expenses for Young Children

Rosa Dávila states that “these grants are a clear commitment to equality of opportunity and support for families on the island”

The funding amounts to two million euros

The application period concludes on 31st October 2025

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Department of Education, has opened the call for grants for children aged 0 to 3 years in the island’s Early Childhood Education, aimed at supporting the balancing of family and work life during the 2025/2026 academic year. The announcement, published today (Monday) in the Official Bulletin of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has an initial allocation of €1,350,000, which can be increased to €2,000,000 if necessary. Each grant will provide a one-off payment of up to €800 per beneficiary.

The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stated that “these grants are a clear commitment to equality of opportunity and to supporting island families. With this initiative, we want to ensure that no one is left behind due to financial reasons and that all families can balance their work and personal lives with confidence. This is a measure that reinforces our commitment to education from the earliest stages, as we know that investing in children is investing in Tenerife’s future. Furthermore, this financial support provides relief for many families who face considerable challenges in covering early education costs, and we want to accompany them on this journey.” She also noted that in the last funding round, 2,034 applications were received, a 36% increase from the previous year.

The Councillor for Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, added that “this programme not only directly assists families but also boosts job creation in the educational sector and strengthens the network of nursery schools on the island. Investing in education for 0 to 3-year-olds is investing in a fairer social model, where balancing work and genuine equality of opportunity becomes a reality. These grants allow many mothers and fathers to enter the job market with greater peace of mind, knowing their children are in quality care. This is a public policy that enhances well-being, social cohesion, and promotes economic development.”

The Nursery Voucher will enable families to cover essential expenses such as tuition, childcare, hygiene, food, and school clothing, while also granting them the freedom to choose their preferred nursery. Families with children enrolled in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education in centres authorised by the Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands can apply for this assistance. The family’s financial situation will be the primary criterion for assessment.

The application period will commence the day after the announcement is published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and will end on 31st October 2025, inclusive.

Applications can be submitted in person, by appointment using the online application here, or electronically.
