The Musa Brasil Festival Continues This Week at MUNA with Open-Air Cinema and a Conference on Health and Sport

Basketball player Marcelinho Huertas will present the talk ‘Nutrition, Sport and Health’ on 17 September, followed by a screening of the film ‘The Second Mother’ on 18 September, as part of the Brazilian cinema series.

Councillor José Carlos Acha highlights that the free activities “strengthen the ties between Tenerife and Brazil, solidifying the museum as a meeting place for cultural exchange and shared reflection.”

The Musa Brasil Festival 2025 continues to infuse the spaces of the Museum of Nature and Archaeology in Tenerife (MUNA) with Brazilian culture, offering new cultural and leisure proposals that blend cinema, reflection, and encounters with prominent figures. This week, the audience can enjoy a screening of one of the most acclaimed films in contemporary Brazilian cinema, along with a conference led by renowned international sports figure, basketball player Marcelo Huertas.

The Councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports at the Tenerife Cabildo, José Carlos Acha, invites the public to participate in these free activities “which reinforce the bond between Tenerife and Brazil through cinema and sport, and establish MUNA as a meeting space for cultural exchange and shared reflection between both countries.”

On Wednesday, 17 September, at 19:00, MUNA will host the conference ‘Nutrition, Sport and Health’, where basketball player Marcelinho Huertas will share insights on leading a long life based on his personal experiences. With a diet centred on fruits, vegetables, seeds, and legumes, and limited fish consumption, Huertas will reflect on how nutrition and sporting practice have been essential in his life journey.

Joining him in the discussion will be Conrado Rodríguez-Maffiote Martín, director of the Canary Institute of Bioanthropology, and Conrado Rodríguez Jaubert, a doctor with La Laguna Tenerife in the ACB. Admission will be free, as usual, until capacity is reached.

Marcelo Huertas, known as Marcelinho Huertas, is a Brazilian-Italian basketball player currently playing for La Laguna Tenerife in the ACB League. At 1.90 metres tall, he plays as a point guard and is recognised for his successful and lengthy career in professional basketball. At 42 years old, he remains a key player in the Endesa League, noted for his game vision, experience, and scoring ability. In the 2024-2025 season, he was named MVP of the Endesa League, underlining his continued relevance and impact in elite sport.

On Thursday, 18 September, at 21:00, the Antonio Pintor courtyard at MUNA will host the screening of the film ‘The Second Mother’ (Que Horas Ela Volta?), directed by Anna Muylaert. This 2015 drama tells the story of Val, a live-in maid who has dedicated her life to serving a wealthy family in São Paulo and caring for their teenage son. The arrival of her daughter Jessica, whom she had left in the care of relatives thirteen years earlier, disrupts the household’s equilibrium and exposes social and familial tensions.

The film has received international acclaim, including the Audience Award at the Berlinale, the Ariel Award for Best Ibero-American Film, and inclusion among the year’s best foreign films by the National Board of Review. Admission is free until capacity is reached, with tickets available on the Tenerife Museums website two days in advance, starting at 10:00.

All activities are free until the planned capacity is reached, so those interested in attending can find programme details on the Tenerife Museums website (click HERE).
