Great caution is advised for pilgrims visiting the Virgin of La Peña

Weather forecasts predict several days of intense heat on the island of Fuerteventura, starting this Thursday, with peak temperatures expected on Friday.

Many models indicate temperatures reaching around 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the island’s interior and south. Light east winds and significant influence from the Saharan ridge will also result in two days of heavy haze across the island.

Great caution is advised for infants and the elderly, as well as for athletes. It is recommended to avoid being outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, approximately until 6 PM when temperatures are expected to begin cooling.

A special note is made for all pilgrims visiting the patron saint on this day. They are urged to avoid the peak sun hours and to ensure they are well-hydrated to prevent any health issues. Skin protection is essential on a day with high ultraviolet radiation.
