Speed Returns to Las Calderas with the Slalom La Piconera

The speed returns, once again, to the Las Calderas stretch with the Slalom La Piconera. The La Oliva Town Council, through the Department of Sports managed by Gleiber Carreño, along with the automotive clubs of Fuerteventura Tibiabín, Betan, FuerteMotor, and Adel RS, as well as the Fuerteventura Island Council and the Canary Islands and Las Palmas Federations, present the 10th edition of motorsport in the municipality. Featuring the traditional route between La Piconera and Morro Francisco in Corralejo, this sporting event promises pure adrenaline in various categories, including touring cars and car cross. 39 teams will participate in the 10th Slalom La Piconera on 20th September.

Participants will need to showcase their skills on a 6 km track. Both contenders and favourites from the Canary Islands Championship for touring cars and car cross will compete. As in previous editions, the service park will be located at Morro Francisco. The event will include four official runs, with the first start and prize-giving taking place at the same location. With road closures commencing at 12:00, vehicles will enter the track at 13:00, thus marking the start of the race.

Local Officials Highlight the Importance of the Event

The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, emphasises the growing importance of this sport in the municipality. “The 10th edition of the Slalom La Piconera brings the best of this sporting discipline to La Oliva. It is essential for us to continue promoting competitions that put motorsport at the forefront and thus diversify our sports offerings.”

Furthermore, the Councillor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, expresses the commitment to continue supporting this discipline on the island. “The celebration of the Slalom in the municipality helps to maintain the momentum of motorsport in Fuerteventura and highlights the diversity of races and competitions available for locals and visitors to the island.”
