Cabildo Launches Young Rent Voucher Scheme

The Cabildo, through the Department of Municipal Cooperation and Housing, in collaboration with the Canarian Housing Institute (Icavi), will promote the Young Rent Voucher on the Island, as announced yesterday by the insular vice president, Lope Afonso, and the councillor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Sonia Hernández. This programme will provide young people with direct financial assistance for rent payments on their primary residences, aiming to facilitate their emancipation and real access to dignified housing.

Sonia Hernández explained that the Young Rent Voucher is “a programme managed through the autonomous communities, and with this collaboration agreement, we seek to maximise the chances of granting assistance for young people’s access to housing.” She added, “The aim is to establish a complementary fund to that of Icavi for young applicants from the Island, which is expected to be operational by 2026.”

Lope Afonso emphasised that, “since the beginning of our term, we have wanted to position the Cabildo as a useful tool for the people of Tenerife, to alleviate the housing access issue,” recognising that “this is one of the citizens’ primary concerns. This measure demonstrates the Cabildo’s genuine commitment to the youth of Tenerife.”
