High temperatures continue to be a concern for pilgrims heading to Vega
Temperatures in Fuerteventura soared to around 38 degrees Celsius at 2.00 PM, particularly in the central areas of the island. Most locations are experiencing temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, with expectations of continuing rises at least until 4.30 PM.
Authorities are urging heightened vigilance for infants, the elderly, and especially for all pilgrims heading to Vega del Río Palmas to visit the Virgen de la Peña. This warning extends to the general population, as the dust haze intensifies the feeling of suffocation.
It is important to note that Fuerteventura is on orange alert for temperatures, as declared by AEMET, and is under warning for maximum temperatures from the Government of the Canary Islands.
