SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Traffic Restrictions for ‘Car-Free Day’

The Santa Cruz City Council has announced various traffic disruptions starting this Sunday due to street closures and the suspension of on-street parking for the ‘Car-Free Day’ event on Avenida de Anaga, from 08:00 to 15:00 hours.

Additionally, on Monday, there will be restrictions on Calvo Sotelo Street from 16:00 hours until 08:00 hours on Tuesday while filming for the feature film ‘Bajo el Volcán 2’ takes place. Parking will be limited in this area, allowing only access for residents with garages.

On Sunday, in preparation for ‘Car-Free Day’, there will be an early closure of the section of Avenida Marítima between the Turboglorieta de Hacienda (intersection with Avenida San Sebastián) and the tunnel of Vía Litoral. Avenida Francisco la Roche (Avenida de Anaga) will also be closed between the aforementioned tunnel and Rambla de Santa Cruz. Security bollards will be raised along this avenue to enhance the safety of the event.

The event will feature several zones: Zone 1 will include elements for wheeled skills, located between numbers 33 and 37 on Avenida Anaga, with a skills circuit and a pump track along with other areas suitable for small bicycles, roller-skates, and scooters. Zone 2 will host activities from the Insular Tennis Federation, located at number 33 on the same avenue, with two or three courts available. Zone 3 will be a skating rink between numbers 24 and 32 on Avenida, and Zone 4, named Polideportiva, will be situated between the tunnel exit and number 23 on the avenue, as specified by the capital’s City Council in a press release.

Due to this event, the Vía Litoral tunnel will be closed, and right turns from Rambla de Santa Cruz onto Avenida Francisco La Roche (Avenida Anaga) will be prohibited. Right turns from República Honduras Street onto this avenue will also be disabled. Consequently, all parking in the Avenida de Anaga area, where the event will take place (between the Vía Litoral tunnel exit and República de Honduras Street), will be suspended from 06:00 to 15:00 hours.

Alternative routes to access the affected districts of Anaga, Playa de Las Teresitas, and others include travelling towards San Andrés via Avenida Marítima, Avenida San Sebastián, Bravo Murillo, Plaza de España, and La Marina; or using the interior route through the dock, via the Ramblas, Reyes Católicos, Avenida de la Asunción, and Rambla de Santa Cruz. For those heading south, routes will be through the Ramblas, Avenida de la Asunción, and Reyes Católicos.

Filming for ‘Bajo el Volcán 2’

According to the Mobility Department, due to the filming of the feature film ‘Bajo el Volcán 2’, Calvo Sotelo Street (near Pub Enroque, number 5) will be closed to traffic between Santiago Cuadrado Street and Rambla de Santa Cruz. This closure will last a maximum of 8 hours, occurring at night from 19:00 hours on Monday until 04:00 hours on 23 November 2025, with vehicles being diverted through adjacent streets (Fernando Primo de Rivera or De Los Sueños).

Similarly, Emilio Calzadilla Street will be closed between Plaza del Patriotismo (Suárez Guerra Street and San Juan Bautista), with this closure lasting a maximum of 2 hours (during night time) from 22:00 hours until 00:00 hours on 23 September. During this time, vehicles will be diverted through adjacent routes.

Further parking suspensions will occur on Calvo Sotelo Street, where parking on both sides will be disabled for 170 metres between Santiago Cuadrado Street and Rambla de Santa Cruz, from 16:00 on 22 September until 08:00 the following day.

Parking will also be suspended on Ricardo Castelo Gómez Street near the Plaza de Toros and Municipal Depot, for 140 metres between Horacio Nelson and Comandante Sánchez Pinto, from 16:00 hours on Monday, 22 September, until 08:00 the next day.

On Puerto Escondido Street, line parking on both sides will be removed for 120 metres between Suárez Guerra and San Clemente Streets, effective from 16:00 on Monday until 07:00 on 23 September.

Moreover, line parking on San Clemente Street will be disabled on the right-hand side for 35 metres between El Pilar and Santa Rosalía Streets. A loading/unloading zone is currently installed and should be used outside of the indicated hours, from 18:00 hours on Tuesday, 23 September until 07:00 hours on 24 September 2025.

The city council has reminded the public of the importance of respecting the signage and detours in place and has requested that, whenever possible, individuals plan their journeys in advance during these events.
