On 20th September, the hunting community of Lanzarote gathered at the Cabildo’s entrance at 10:00 AM to advocate for the preservation of hunting on the island. During the event, participants signed a manifesto to be submitted to the Insular Council, outlining their demands.

Main Demands

Among the key points, hunters insist that meteorological alerts should not be used as a reason to suspend hunting days unless the same restrictions apply to all outdoor sports. They also request that should activities be banned due to compelling reasons such as heat, rain, or toxins, the cancelled days be rescheduled and added to the hunting season as defined in the closure order.

Representation and Protocols

Another major point is the demand for the hunting sector to hold at least 50% of the votes on the Insular Hunting Council, alongside the creation of a new protocol for pre-hunting reports. Furthermore, the manifesto expresses opposition to the ongoing prohibition of traditional hunting areas, such as Jable, and calls for the reinstatement of field training to improve dogs’ physical condition and assist in locating trappers.
