The Santa Cruz City Council has announced traffic changes affecting this Sunday: roads will be closed and surface parking eliminated due to the celebration of the ‘Car-Free Day’ on Anaga Avenue, from 08:00 to 15:00.

There will also be restrictions on Monday on Calvo Sotelo Street from 16:00 until 08:00 on Tuesday, due to the filming of the feature film ‘Under the Volcano 2’. Parking in this area will be limited and only residents with garages will be allowed access.

Traffic Changes in Santa Cruz

This Sunday, due to the ‘Car-Free Day’, from 10:00 to 13:00, the section of Maritime Avenue between the Turboglorieta de Hacienda (intersection with San Sebastián Avenue) and the Vía Litoral tunnel will be closed.

Additionally, Francisco la Roche Avenue (Anaga Avenue) will be closed in the stretch between Maritime Avenue/Vía Litoral tunnel and Santa Cruz Boulevard. Security bollards will be raised along this avenue to enhance safety during the event.

The event will feature:

  • Zone 1 (between numbers 33 and 37 on Anaga Avenue): skills circuit, pump track, elevation platforms, and other areas for small bicycles, skates, and scooters.
  • Zone 2 (from number 33 of the aforementioned avenue): activities by the Insular Tennis Federation with two or three courts.
  • Zone 3 (between numbers 24 and 32 on the avenue): skating rink.
  • Zone 4 (between the tunnel exit and number 23 on the avenue): designated Sports Area.

Due to this event, the Vía Litoral tunnel will be closed, and a right turn from Santa Cruz Boulevard to Francisco la Roche Avenue (Anaga Avenue) will be prohibited. Additionally, a right turn from Honduras Republic Street to this avenue will also be disabled.

As a consequence of this event, all existing parking in the area of Anaga Avenue, where the event is taking place (between the Vía Litoral tunnel exit and Honduras Republic Street), will be suspended from 06:00 to 15:00.

Alternative routes for navigating around the closures to reach the affected neighbourhoods of Anaga, and the Playa de Las Teresitas include San Andrés via Maritime Avenue, San Sebastián Avenue, Bravo Murillo, Plaza de España, and La Marina. Further, interior routes through the Wharf and Ramblas, with Reyes Católicos, Avenida de la Asunción, and Santa Cruz Boulevard also available. For southbound travel, use the Ramblas, Avenida de la Asunción, and Reyes Católicos.
