On Saturday, 20th September, the Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) headquarters in Valterra hosted the party’s Insular Congress, a pivotal meeting aimed at consolidating its political structure and reinforcing its commitment to establishing a left-wing municipal alternative on the island.

Leadership and New Council

LEP members supported Leticia Padilla’s continuation as the coordinator, confirming her as the political leader of the project. Additionally, a new Insular Coordination Council was formed, tasked with driving the party’s political and organisational efforts.

Political Documents and Framework Updates

The political documents that provide identity and structure to the organisation were approved, the statutory framework was updated, and resolutions defining the roadmap for the 2025–2029 cycle were established.

“The resolutions we approved are not merely declarations; they are immediate commitments that guide our actions and outline our collective next steps,” stated Leticia Padilla.

Commitment to Social Issues

Lanzarote En Pie firmly commits to defending the right to housing against rampant touristification, providing high-quality free public services, and protecting the territory from the speculative and predatory model that threatens the island’s ecosystems and living conditions.

Eco-social Transition and Political Model

The approved resolutions also advocate for a fair eco-social transition, prioritising collective well-being over private profit, and a political model based on permanent sovereignty, community roots, and self-governance as a form of democratic resistance against centralisation and authoritarianism.

Focus on Feminism and Community

Structural feminism, care, critical Canary identity, popular memory, and the defence of migrant rights are also central to the political project, regarded as essential pillars for building a just, pluralistic, and cohesive community.

Political Engagement

The organisation emphasises that the approved resolutions “not only provide general guidelines but clearly express LEP’s intention to engage with the significant political and social conflicts affecting the island.”

They also highlighted the commitment to working towards the reconstruction of the political space for the island’s left. This is a goal the organisation approaches “with responsibility, advocating for dialogue, collaboration, and unity in the struggle against the rise of neofascism and authoritarian far-right movements.”

Strengthening the Progressive Space

“LEP thus reaffirms itself as an organised, coherent force ready to combine efforts to strengthen the island’s progressive space and provide structured responses to upcoming social and political challenges,” the party representatives affirmed.

Building a Stronger Organisation

Leticia Padilla emphasised the necessity of consolidating an organisation that is “strong, ethical, and transparent, capable of engaging with social movements and contesting the common space through clear, direct, and transformative political communication.”

Future Goals

In conclusion, LEP asserts that following this Congress, it will “reaffirm its role as a transformative project, rooted in the island, with a clear political proposal to build community, defend rights, and establish a strong, brave, and governance-oriented left on the island.”
