Second Group of Immigrants Rescued Near Lanzarote After Previous Operation

A second group of immigrants, consisting of 54 individuals—50 men and 4 women—was rescued by Maritime Salvage on Sunday afternoon while en route to Lanzarote. This follows the rescue of another group of around fifty Africans earlier that morning in the same waters, according to sources from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium.

Rescue Operations

The rescue vessel is expected to arrive on the island by approximately nine in the evening, the sources confirmed.

This represents the second group of immigrants rescued in the area that day. A boat carrying 49 men and one woman, originating from the Maghreb, was found adrift almost 100 kilometres off the coast of Arrecife. They were spotted just after midnight on Saturday by a fishing vessel, which promptly alerted Maritime Salvage.

According to representatives from the state agency, as the vessel, named “Santuario Barquereño”, approached the stranded boat to assess the situation of its occupants—who reported they had run out of fuel—Maritime Salvage deployed its rescue boat “Guardamar Polimnia” to assist.

Upon arrival at the scene around four in the morning, the crew of the “Polimnia” brought the immigrants aboard and transported them to Arrecife port, where the disembarkation began at 7:30 on Sunday morning, as detailed by the state agency. EFE
