The duo of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and the LaBase SX01 driver topped the podium at the 10th Slalom La Piconera in their respective categories. Tenerife residents Iván and Claudia García, driving a BMW Compact Proto, now lead the inter-island championship between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The X Slalom La Piconera goes to Tacoronte-Sáez in touring cars and Daniel Pérez in car-cross.

Jesús Tacoronte and María Sáez, as driver and co-driver in the touring cars category, along with Daniel Pérez in the car-cross division, are the first leaders of the Slalom Island Championship of Fuerteventura. This championship, called by the Las Palmas Automobile Federation (FALP), kicked off this weekend with the 10th Slalom La Piconera, an event organised by the United Clubs of the island of Fuerteventura (Tibabín, Betan, Adael, and FuerteMotor).

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX duo dominated three of the four heats held on the popular stage located in the municipality of La Oliva. The only timed run they missed out on was the first one, where the locals José Javier Fránquiz and Jonathan Hernández took the lead with their Mitsubishi Space Star. They ultimately had to retire due to a mechanical failure while in a battle for the top positions.

Gustavo Sosa, accompanied by the León native Alba Sánchez, steered his Hyundai i20 N Rally2 to second place. The honours board was completed by Gran Canaria’s Cristian Calderín and Verónica Tejera, who piloted their indomitable Volkswagen Golf GTI. Tenerife’s Iván and Claudia García, driving their BMW Compact Proto, finished in fourth place overall, securing their lead in the Inter-Island Championship of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Slalom.

The top tier of the new championship created by FALP is closely contested, with the top three drivers separated by just five points. Amai Perdomo and Tania Trenzado, who finished thirteenth at La Piconera with their Volkswagen Golf GTI, occupy second place, while ‘Toñín’ Suárez, who was absent from the event held in northern Fuerteventura, has dropped to third place in the drivers’ standings with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

In the category reserved for single-seaters, Pérez achieved a heroic victory at the wheel of his LaBase SX01. The representative of Escudería Maxo Sport posted a spectacular time in the final heat, allowing him to snatch victory from Simón Medina. This win solidifies his position as leader in the Provincial Championship of Las Palmas for Car-Cross. Medina, meanwhile, climbs to second place, but is 24 points behind the leader.

Regarding the car-cross classification within the new Inter-Island Championship of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, Rubén de León leads the way with his MV Racing SP2. The majorero athlete, who finished third in his home event, is five points ahead of Juan Moisés Izquierdo, who had to settle for eighth place at La Piconera. Daniel Pérez, despite having one less participation than his rivals, already appears in third place.
