Puerto del Carmen is gearing up for a historic day as it celebrates its 60th anniversary as a tourist destination. On Friday, 26 September, at 19:30, Avenida de las Playas will be the venue for the International Tourism Day Gala and the ZEConsciente Awards, an event filled with emotion, music, and a tribute to the history of Lanzarote’s most visited enclave.
This event, part of the World Tourism Day promoted by the UNWTO, will recognise the contributions of local residents and key figures in establishing the destination. This year, honourees include Ico Montelongo Pérez, advocate for local produce and ice cream traditions; Josefina Gopar, pioneer of commerce in La Tiñosa; Emilio Pérez Franquiz, master fisherman and first president of the Fishermen’s Guild; and Kenneth Gasque, founder of Ironman Lanzarote and a significant promoter of sports tourism.
The evening will also unveil the new visual identity for the 60th anniversary: a vibrant, festive, and dynamic brand that symbolises the energy, diversity, and future of Puerto del Carmen—an area that has successfully merged tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
The music will add an emotional touch to the night with a performance by the group Cantadores, featuring 25 artists, including three of the most recognised voices from the Canary Islands: Ciro Corujo, Manuel Estupiñán, and Pedro Manuel Afonso.
With the onset of these celebrations, the municipality of Tías reaffirms its commitment to a responsible tourism model that protects Lanzarote’s cultural and natural heritage. The gala will have limited seating and exclusive access by invitation only.
