Cabildo President Confirms Intent to Host La Vuelta Despite Israel’s Participation

The President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila (CC), has asserted her intention to bring La Vuelta to the island in 2026, despite Israel’s involvement in the event. She stated that it’s necessary to “wait” and see what happens over the next year.

Condemnation of Violence in Gaza

Dávila publicly condemned the genocide and “terrible massacre” of the Palestinian people by Israel. She emphasised the importance of denouncing the crimes occurring in Gaza so that they are not “overlooked” and that voices must be raised against them.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the Cabildo, in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Cabildo and the regional government, has been working for over a year with La Vuelta’s organisers to bring stages to the archipelago. “What we must do now is wait for international organisations and see what decisions are made regarding sporting events such as World Cups, the Olympics, or the European Basketball League,” she added.

Resistance from Gran Canaria

However, Antonio Morales, the President of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, has already stated that the island will not hold La Vuelta with Israel’s participation, despite a preliminary agreement signed with Unipublic, the event’s organising company.

Conversely, the Vice President and Tourism Councillor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso (PP), assured that the corporation remains interested in hosting stages of La Vuelta next year. He noted that discussions will continue with both the organisers and the Spanish Cycling Federation to ensure the safety and integrity of the sport is upheld.
