The Insular Government Council of the Lanzarote Cabildo approved an increase in the budget allocated for the Grant Programme for Operational Expenses in Agricultural Operations (Line 1) during a session held on Monday. The funding for the 2025 financial year will rise from an initial amount of €50,000 to a total of €255,000, more than five times the original allocation.
Support for Agricultural Producers
Oswaldo Betancort, President of the Lanzarote Cabildo and Councillor for Agriculture and Livestock, emphasised that “with this increase, we ensure that no one is left out, guaranteeing that all applicants have the necessary resources to cover their operational costs and continue progressing towards a stronger, more competitive primary sector.”
Addressing Demand
This expansion is in response to over a hundred applications (126), ensuring that the maximum number of agricultural operations in Lanzarote and La Graciosa can benefit from this support scheme.
Regulatory Framework
The agreement by the Council is based on current regulations regarding grants and the Strategic Grant Plan 2023-2025, which was approved by the island’s Plenary Assembly last August. This plan permits the increase of funds allocated to the grants without the need to open a new application period.
Next Steps
Consequently, the new funding amount will be published in both the National Database of Grants (BDNS) and the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas, clarifying that this increase does not entail the opening of a new application period.
Soon, the provisional resolution of approved applicants for this grant programme will be published on the Announcement Board of the Cabildo’s electronic headquarters.
The institution led by Oswaldo Betancort is making a significant step towards supporting the modernisation of agricultural operations in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, enhancing competitiveness and maintaining a strategic sector for the island’s economy.
