Tenerife Firefighters Respond to Multiple Emergencies This Weekend

Tenerife Firefighters, based in La Orotava, were activated on Sunday around 11:45 AM after receiving an alert from 112 regarding a fire in the kitchen of a restaurant located on Carretera General del Norte, in the municipality of La Matanza.

Upon arrival, they evacuated the individuals present inside the establishment, extinguished flames that had originated from a fryer, disconnected the electricity supply, and ventilated the premises. They also advised Canary Police agents to implement a precautionary closure of the business. The intervention also involved personnel from the Guardia Civil and a unit from the Canary Emergency Services (SUC).

Meanwhile, firefighters from the San Miguel station responded on Saturday to a location in Los Abrigos, Granadilla de Abona, to rescue a person trapped on a rock and at risk due to the strong sea currents. A rescuer reached the individual and shielded them from the waves until a second colleague arrived. Together, they waited for the wave intensity to decrease before relocating the individual to a safer area, where a Maritime Rescue helicopter completed the rescue and transported them to medical services.

Other Operations

In La Orotava, firefighters from the municipal station were called out early this Monday morning following a vehicle overturning on the TF-21. The occupant was trapped, prompting the firefighters to secure the area, stabilise the car, and extricate the individual through the rear hatch for transport to a SUC ambulance. Agents from the Guardia Civil and road maintenance personnel also assisted.

On the previous Sunday at 8:00 PM, firefighters from Santa Cruz extinguished a fire involving rubbish and debris in an abandoned premises on Avenida Víctor Zurita Soler, during which both the Local Police and the National Police were involved.

In San Miguel, firefighters were required on Sunday morning to assist an injured individual on the trail leading to Montaña Amarilla. After immobilising the person, they transported them to a SUC ambulance. On Saturday afternoon, they also responded to a fire in a vehicle parked on a site on Carretera General de La Cisnera.

Firefighters from La Laguna attended to a fire at the entrance of a building on Calle San Borondón on Friday around 4:00 PM. They extinguished the flames and evacuated the residences affected by smoke, coordinating with the National Police, Local Police, and SUC.

That same day, just before noon, firefighters from the Santa Cruz station responded to a fire in an abandoned building in El Sobradillo. After launching an exterior attack on the flames, they gained access to the property and confirmed it was unoccupied. They subsequently extinguished the fire and ensured the structure was cooled and ventilated. Units from the National Police, Local Police, and SUC were also present in the area.
