Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque Celebrates New €Senior Care Home Project in Tahíche

New Care Home Project Launched in Teguise

The Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, has expressed her positive outlook on the initiation of a new care home project to be constructed in Tahíche, within the municipality. “We are discussing an incredibly necessary infrastructure for the island and particularly for our elderly residents. This care home will not only address a clear generational and social demand but also represents a decisive step towards caring for those who have given so much for us,” Duque emphasised.

Addressing Urgent Needs

The mayor recalled that she had previously advocated during several council meetings that institutions needed to look beyond current provisions, as Lanzarote urgently required a new elderly care home. “The reality is that social demand has been clamouring for not just one, but several facilities of this nature. This wasn’t addressed because for four years, the PSOE was at the helm of the Cabildo and left the project forgotten in a drawer. This neglect has caused real hardship for many families who have been waiting far too long for a solution that should have been provided earlier,” Duque asserted.

Collaboration Acknowledged

At the same time, the mayor wished to acknowledge the efforts of the current public officials. “This project is also the culmination of teamwork, and I want to congratulate my colleagues at the Cabildo because when we combine efforts, we can achieve significant advancements such as this. Initiatives like this reaffirm my belief in the vision that CC has for the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa,” she added.

Investment in Teguise

Duque stressed that this project is a recognition of Teguise as an ideal location for the development of island services. “Teguise is ready and capable of hosting projects of this magnitude. What we demand now is increased funding and resources for the municipality, either from other institutions with greater competencies or through new financing avenues, to continue creating spaces that enhance people’s lives,” the mayor highlighted.

Future Projects Announced

In this regard, she mentioned that the council is already working on new initiatives focused on prioritising people and our elderly, such as the establishment of a Family Respite Centre in Guatiza. “I will continue to advocate for what Teguise deserves: investment, institutional commitment, and more infrastructures that bolster social wellbeing,” Duque concluded.
