Tías Hosts III Race Against Cancer to Promote Solidarity and Healthy Living

The municipality of Tías will once again become a hub of solidarity and sport with the celebration of the III Race Against Cancer, organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in collaboration with the Tías Town Hall, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and sponsored by Hibiscus Hotels. The event will take place on 28 September at 10:00 hours in the Plaza de Las Naciones in Puerto del Carmen.

Official Presentation

The official presentation occurred this week at the Tías Town Hall, where the significance of this event, which combines sport, awareness, and support for those affected by this illness, was emphasised.

Support from Local Officials

Ismael Cruz, Councillor for Sports at the Tías Town Hall, highlighted, “From the Sports Department, we did not hesitate for a second to support this race. In addition to the message of hope and resilience it conveys, it promotes healthy habits and strengthens the social fabric of our municipality.”

“Puerto del Carmen comes alive with this type of initiative. We invite all residents of the island to join in, as every step counts in the fight against cancer,” he added.

Meanwhile, Juan Monzón, the Councillor for Sports at the Cabildo of Lanzarote, expressed the island institution’s support for this charitable event, stating, “This race exemplifies how sport can help raise awareness of such important causes as the fight against cancer.”

Event Details

The event will feature three categories: the main race (for ages 12 and over) at 10:30 hours, the children’s race (for ages 7 and over) at 11:00 hours, and a non-competitive walk at 11:30 hours. Registrations are open at the AECC headquarters in Lanzarote, located at Calle Manolo Millares, 26, in Arrecife. The individual entry fee is 12 euros, while the group entry fee (for five or more individuals) is 10 euros per person.

Fundraising for Support Initiatives

María Dolores Lasso, the president of AECC in Lanzarote, reminded everyone that “the funds raised will be entirely dedicated to supporting programmes for prevention, research, and assistance for those affected by cancer and their families.”

The Tías Town Hall encourages local residents, sports clubs, families, and visitors to actively participate in this race, which has already established itself as an iconic event on the island’s sports and charitable calendar.
