XII Feria de Vocaciones Científicas de Canarias: Fostering Scientific Careers for Students in Tenerife

The twelfth edition of the Canarian Scientific Vocations Fair, organised by the University of La Laguna in collaboration with the Economic Promotion Department of the Arona City Council, will gather 1104 students from Year 5 and 6 of Primary Education, Secondary School, Sixth Form, and Vocational Training from eight educational institutions in Tenerife: IES Las Galletas, CPEIPS Echeyde III, CEIP Buzanada, CEIP El Fraile, IES Serafín Pardo, CEIP Adoración Rodríguez Alonso, CEIP La Estrella, and IES Luis Diego Cuscoy.

The event will take place on 25th and 26th September in the plaza of El Fraile, running from 09:30 to 14:00 on 25th September and from 09:30 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00 on 26th September.

Enhancing Scientific Vocations

The fair aims to foster scientific vocations among young people, immersing them in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, while supporting them in the development of their professional future.

The programme features demonstration stands, practical workshops, scientific talks, and professional discussions, alongside the Women and Science activity, which highlights the research efforts of female scientists at ULL. This edition will include contributions from Itahisa Pérez Conesa, Elena Pastor Tejera, Edith Padrón, Naira Delgado Rodríguez, and María del Mar del Pino.

Scientific Talks and Participation

As part of the scientific talks programme, each day will see six researchers from the University of La Laguna (ULL) present, representing various departments and research groups.

Participants include Luis Javier Capote Pérez, Dr. Elisa J. Pérez Rosales, Dr. Ricardo Borges Jurado, Dr. Rubén L. Rodríguez Expósito, Dr. María Fernanda Guitián Garre, Ms. Mónica Dios Rodríguez, Dr. Antonio EFF Darwich Peña, Dr. Luis Jesús Quijada Fumero, Dr. Daniel Arenas Esteban, Dr. Daniel Miguel Méndez Rodríguez, and Dr. José Luis González Mora.

Demonstration Stands and Research Centres

The demonstration stands will include R&D centres from the island and research organisations from the ULL, such as the Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the Canarian Institute of Agricultural Research, the Canary Islands University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Public Health, the University Institute of Neuroscience, the Antonio González University Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, the Biomedical Technologies Institute, and the General Research Support Service.

Several research groups will also participate, including MAT4LL, TOXFOOD, LDF Tecnomar, RIPD, Paleoconéctate, Family and Human Development, Contemporary Sculptural Techniques, Procedures, and Discourses, as well as projects like CanBio, Qbridges, TEMPOS, I-rVerde, and ELASOC II: Latin American Writers in Socialist European Countries during the Cold War.

Educational Initiatives

Educational initiatives such as Ciencia a lo Grande, ProyectaMates, Piensa ComputacionULLmente, and the Get Closer to Science with ULL in Arona Programme will offer workshops on paleontology, engineering, art, astronomy, biology, and cryptography. Additionally, the Canarian Society of Mathematics Teachers Luis Balbuena Castellano will also be present.

Awards Ceremony

The closing event of MacaroNight 2025 will be held on 26th September, featuring the awards for the Scientific Competitions in the Auditorium of the ‘Eduardo Oramas Alayón’ Civic Centre in El Fraile, from 19:30 to 20:30.

Highlighted awards include the VI edition of the Children’s Scientific Suitcase Competition and the XIII edition of the Cienci@ULL Science Communication Competition, aimed at Primary School students and young researchers, respectively, organised to bring the research work conducted in the Canary Islands closer to society.
