Expansion of the cemetery enhances the municipality’s funeral capacity and addresses significant public demand
The Teguise Town Council has officially completed the expansion of the Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery in the Villa, following the construction of 464 new burial niches. This project, part of Lanzarote’s cooperative plans, involved an investment of €310,000.
Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque stated that the completion of this project “addresses a real and urgent need within the municipality and has been a clear priority for this government since the beginning of the term.” She added that “ensuring dignified and appropriate spaces during the most delicate times for families is not just an administrative obligation, but a mark of respect towards our citizens and those who came before us.”
Duque further remarked that “the cemetery of the Villa de Teguise is part of our community’s historical and emotional heritage, and for this reason, we have promoted an action that not only increases its capacity but also dignifies and enhances it.” She also expressed gratitude to the technical staff and all involved departments “for their coordinated and efficient efforts that made it possible to deliver this infrastructure on schedule.”
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Works, Eugenio Robayna, positively assessed the project’s completion and emphasised that “the work was carried out as swiftly as possible to meet one of the municipality’s most urgent service demands.” Robayna highlighted that this expansion “enhances the funeral capacity of the municipality and improves medium to long-term planning.”
The Teguise Town Council continues to work on developing public infrastructure that meets the actual needs of the population, firmly committed to the quality of life, respect, and dignity of all residents.
